Gut Health and Food Sensitivity

The health of the entire body is dependent on a healthy gut and gut microbiome. I use advanced functional lab testing to give us unique insight into the overall health and functionality of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The comprehensive clarity that you need at the highest standard.

What to Expect

Your diagnostic testing kit will be either fingerstick blood or stool samples done in the comfort of your own home. You will then mail your sample using prepaid shipping materials into the laboratory for analysis. Depending on which advanced lab test is ordered, results can take anywhere from 10-30 days to receive. Once I receive your results from the lab, I will reach out to you to schedule an appointment. You can make this appointment at your convenience in the patient portal.

During your appointment, we will go over your results, answer any questions you may have, and put together a gut healing protool and meal plan tailored specifically to your unique needs.

The KBMO FIT Test

The patented KBMO FIT test  is currently the only food sensitivity test available that measures both IgG 1-4 and Immune Complexes, the most common food-related pathways in the body. Measuring both IgG and Immune Complexes together increases the sensitivity over other tests, which measure IgG alone.

An IgG antibody reaction to a food is a delayed reaction – anywhere from several hours to days. Research indicates that IgG antibodies produced in the blood against particular foods may promote certain inflammatory reactions within the body. Additionally, the FIT test screens for IgG types 1-4 whereas most IgG testing only looks at 1-2 types.

Testing for Complement (C3d) is a direct measurement of inflammation in the body and is therefore a very important addition for any food inflammation test.

We can now measure those two components simultaneously against 132 different foods, colorings, and additives spanning most major food groups.

Additionally, the FIT test includes a Gut Barrier Panel which allows us to differentiate the levels of gut dysfunction, from simple sensitivity to inflammation, and more extreme levels of leaky gut. Moreover, testing for the Zonulin marker is unique to KBMO and part of the FIT Test.

Understanding which foods are actually causing your inflammation is crucial in avoiding an excessive elimination program. With the FIT test, seeing the activation of Complement alongside a high production of IgG antibodies makes it very clear as to what foods we will need to eliminate from your diet leading to a better experience for you.

GI Effects

GI Effects by Genova Diagnostics is a comprehensive assessment of your complete gut health and can reveal critical information about the root cause of gastrointestinal symptoms such as gas, diarrhea, bloating, indigestion, abdominal pain, and constipation. This advanced functional medicine lab test provides information on inflammation and how well you digest and absorb your food. It can also uncover imbalances in yeast, parasites, and healthy and unhealthy bacteria that live in the large intestine. This bacterial population is called the microbiome.

Gut microbes are codependent with one another and with their human host, and the health of one affects the other. An imbalanced gut microbiome is associated with multiple disease states both within and outside of the GI tract. The diverse metabolic activities of the microbiome ultimately impact the human host, and the activities of the human host ultimately affect the health of their microbiome.

GI Effects provides actionable clinical information for developing strategic interventions and managing your gastrointestinal health. This lab is only available for order through a licensed healthcare provider.
