I’m Will Koopal, and I was born and raised in Americus, GA. I have always been interested in health and sports since I was a young child. Growing up, I had health problems of my own and struggled with obesity. Throughout my struggles I came to realize the power of natural medicine, movement, whole natural foods, and the power of creating an environment to let the body heal itself.

I graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University with my Bachelor’s in Exercise Science as I aspired to be a trainer for the Atlanta Falcons or the University of Georgia (Go DAWGS!). During college, I experienced more serious health problems. During this time, I realized the importance of the body, mind, and spirit connection. I truly believe that our struggles can become one of the strongest things in our lives. Once my health was in place, I began searching for my purpose in life, and through much prayer and God putting the right people in my path, I made the decision that I wanted to get into medicine.

Hello,

Will Koopal, PA-C, IFMCP

Physician Assistant

I was hired on the psychiatric unit at PPMH and began working as a psych tech. I quickly realized I could relate to the suffering addicts and that the battle they were facing was mental and spiritual. Once again, God placed the right person in my path, and I was introduced to the Physician Assistant (PA) profession. I had never heard of a PA before meeting this man, and it sounded like a great career. I decided to go for it, and once I did, even more doors were opened. I was granted an interview at A.T. Still University as a hometown scholar-meaning I was from this area and I had intentions to come back to this area to practice medicine. I was accepted into the PA program and knew that I had found my passion in life.

During PA school I was awarded the body, mind, spirit award that recognized the student who realized the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit. The PA program is where I met my wife, Alyssa Koopal who is also a PA. She works as a provider in a local public school. We have two kids, Luke and Emma, and two dogs, Nacho and Teddy. We enjoy serving through our church, The Church at the Groves.

Functional Medicine in Georgia

I have been working in Psychiatry and Internal Medicine for the last five years and this has cemented the fact that the body, mind, and spirit are interconnected. I have received my Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in psychiatry as the mind and spirit are very interesting to me and critical components for true healing to take place.

The great thing about being a PA is that I can work in any specialty that I choose! My natural curiosity, and through seeing many patients, led me to functional medicine. During my two-year certification process with the Institute for Functional Medicine, I developed a close relationship with Dr. Charlie Rouse, also known as The Medicine Man. Although Dr. Charlie is no longer with us, his legacy continues to inspire my work. I’ve dedicated my practice to upholding the comprehensive, world-class healthcare that he championed. My practice is located inside The Medicine Man’s Corner, and this connection allows me to honor his approach and provide exceptional care to our community in southwest Georgia.

My mission is to uncover the root cause of your health concerns and create a personalized plan that works for you. Together, we'll navigate the labyrinth of your unique health journey and guide you toward a brighter, happier, and healthier future. I believe that every story is worth telling, and I am here to help you tell yours.
